Baths!

Most of us have seen television shows where people who want to sell their house call in a team of experts who analyze, criticize, and spend days fixing "problem areas" in that house.  They pour money into improving the appearance of certain rooms in the house, giving it a fresh, new feel and making it more appealing to potential buyers.  These shows are full of great ideas and seem to work wonders for the sellers on television.  But what about everybody else in America trying to sell their home; the ones who don't have a team of experts and a couple thousand dollars?

There are easy changes that you can do yourself very easily to make your home more appealing.  You don't need a team of experts, and I guarantee that you definitely don't need big money either!  To illustrate this point on today's topic of Baths, we're using a very average, normal bath that is used on a daily basis, as you can see by the amount of items on the counter.

The first step into remaking this bath is to remove everything from every flat surface in the room.  Step two is to clean every surface!  Scrub and polish until everything shines.  (Notice that these first two steps have cost you absolutely nothing, since you already have cleaning products.)  Now that the bathroom is clean and sparkling, you have to make the most of it.  It probably looks bigger already!

Step three is accessorize.  In our average bath, we chose to use white accessories.  White = clean in our minds, and in the minds of many potential home buyers.  White towels are also found in hotels and resorts, so white = elegant.  White towels can be found very inexpensively.  The ones used here aren't particularly high end, but they are new and very bright white.

We removed everything from the counters, including the overgrown spider plant.  In place of the spider plant, we took three rolled towels and formed a simple pyramid.  The candle brings in some color.  You can't see it in this photo, but the only other item on the counter is a soap pump.  White towels are used in the holder over the toilet, on the towel rack, and on a towel holder by the sink.  What stands out in both photos is a bright, clean bath!

Are there other improvements that we could have made?  Certainly there are!  Removing wall paper, repainting walls, replacing the vanity, and basically re-doing the entire room, are a few projects that most baths could use.  However, what we did here took an hour and no money, since we only used items from the linen closet.

You might also ask what happened to all those important products that were on the tub and counter?   Relax, they are neatly stowed away in baskets in the vanity.  The trick is to put them back after use each time.  Yes, this is a bother.  Remember:  this isn't forever, it's only until you sell your house!
